Portland Metro Calendar

May 17 (Saturday 6:30 pm - 8 pm) May Dine-out at It's a Beautiful Pizza. Have a hankerin’ for some pizza? How about some great local music? Well, come on over to It’s a Beautiful Pizza at 3342 SE Belmont on Saturday, May 17. We’ll grab some grub and chat about the fun times from VegFest! Show up at 6:30pm and for $10 you’ll get a couple of nice-sized slices of pizza and a salad. Drinks are on your own (some will brew it and some will go for the fizz!). Sunday, May 18 (5 pm – 7:30 pm): Northwest VEG Eastside Potluck. Join Northwest VEG for our monthly potluck at the Friends Meeting Hall, 4312 SE Stark Street in Portland. Please bring a vegan or vegetarian main dish, salad or dessert, a card listing its ingredients, and plates and utensils for your use. If you come alone, figure the amount to serve 4-6; increase the amount 4 servings for each additional person in your party/family. Northwest VEG potlucks are alcohol-free events and we start eating about 5:15 pm.

May 18 (6:30 pm) Proper Eats Presentation. Even if you can’t make the potluck, please come to hear Piper Dixon of Proper Eats Market and Cafe discuss buying produce for the restaurant and grocery he co-owns. There are many practical challenges in operating a vegetarian establishment and buying organic food, in season and locally grown. A native of Indiana and a horticulturist by profession, Piper has transitioned to chef and then business owner. For more information call (503) 224-7380 or email info@nwveg.org. May 29 (about 7:30 pm): Vegan Chef Presentation. After the meal at Vancouver's potluck, Vegan chef, instructor, and cookbook author David Gabbe will be our speaker.

Sunday, June 1 (11 am – 3 pm): Whole Life Market's First Day! The National College of Natural Medicine presents the Whole Life Market every other Sunday, June 1 - Oct. 19. Vendors will reflect a wide range of produce, health care products, and handmade items. Each market will include talks, demonstrations or short classes on topics like acupuncture and cooking. Thursday - Thursday, June 7-14: Try Vegan Week!
The Portland vegan community is one of the strongest and most active in the world. With thousands of vegans, several activist groups and dozens of businesses we are planning an unprecedented outreach campaign to support hundreds of Portlander's interested in making a change in their diet. Wednesday, June 11 ( 6 pm - 7:30 pm) Northwest VEG Book Club Meeting. This conference at Portland State University is for first-timers, experienced activists, and anybody in between who hopes to make a real difference for animals and build a stronger, more effective community and animal liberation movement. Volunteer Work Party at Lighthouse Farm Sanctuary
When: Every other Saturday, 10 am - 1 pm
More than 100 rescued farm animals reside at this sanctuary near Scio, OR, east of Salem. Volunteer work parties provide an opportunity to visit the farm and help with routine chores, after which everyone stops for lunch and a roundtable discussion of any topic concerning animal welfare.
