Portland Walk for Farm Animals Benefits Farm Sanctuary

Northwest VEG held a Walk for Farm Animals on Sept. 30, 2006, to benefit Farm Sanctuary, a national, nonprofit animal protection organization. See list of walkers who created fund-raising pages. Farm Sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates and provides lifelong care for hundreds of animals rescued from factory farms, stockyards and slaughterhouses. In addition to operating shelters in New York and California, they work to gain legal protection for animals used in food production and to raise public awareness about factory farm cruelty and more compassionate alternatives. Farm Sanctuary also promotes a diet free of animal products. The Walk helps fund Farm Sanctuary’s rescue and protection campaigns.

Walkers who raised over $100 in pledges will receive Farm Sanctuary prizes. The top individual and team fund-raisers will also receive local prizes. Thanks to Mirador Community Store, Kinta Restaurant, Annie Bloom's Books, and Food Fight Grocery for donating gift certificates— and to local artist Jesseca Dadds for donating a custom work of art (see her cow and sheep paintings)! In addition, Northwest VEG is grateful to Blossoming Lotus Cafe for hosting the walk check-in and donating a portion of the hot beverages and cookies.
