Enhancing Health with Plant-Based Nutrition is a golden opportunity for you to find out the latest information on plant-based diets with respect to clinical nutrition, the effects of diet on chronic disease prevention and control, and on designing an optimum plant-based diet. Interest in plant-based diets is growing, and Portland, Oregon has become a center for that developing interest. This is a professional conference, offering continuing education credits for many medical professionals, but others with strong interests in health and diet issues are welcome to attend.

Clinical researcher and author Neal Barnard, M.D., is one of America’s leading advocates for health, nutrition, and higher standards in research. As the principal investigator of several human clinical research trials, whose results are published in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals, Dr. Barnard has examined key issues in health and nutrition.
Neal Barnard is the founder and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM). Dr. Barnard is also president of The Cancer Project, a nonprofit organization advancing cancer prevention and survival through nutrition education and research.

Johanna W. Lampe is a Full Member and Associate Division Director in the Public
Health Sciences Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and a Research
Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Washington.
Dr. Lampe earned a PhD in nutritional sciences, with a minor in biochemistry, at the
University of Minnesota. She went on to train as a post-doctoral fellow in epidemiology
at the University of Minnesota before joining the faculty at Fred Hutchinson Cancer
Research Center. For over a decade, her research program has addressed the effect of
plant-food constituents on cancer susceptibility in humans.

Amy J. Lanou, Ph.D., is senior nutrition scientist for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) and an assistant professor of health and wellness for the University of North Carolina-Asheville (UNCA). Dr. Lanou researches and writes about the connection between plant-based diets and reduced risk of chronic diseases. One of her current interests is the relationship between nutrition and bone health.
Dr. Lanou is the author of Building Bone Vitality and Healthy Eating for Life for Children. Dr. Lanou publishes regularly on the relationship between dairy products and health concerns. The most recent paper in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition delineates the reasons why dairy products should not be recommended in vegetarian diets.
Presentation Title: Achieving Bone Vitality Through Plant-Based
Marnie Loomis, ND, is the director of professional formation at National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM). After completing her bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary social science and public policy at Michigan State University, Dr. Loomis earned her ND degree from NCNM. After graduation, she spent seven years in private practice in the Portland area. She continues to write and publish articles about patient care and is completing her first book.

Jack Norris is a Registered Dietitian and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Life University (Marietta, GA) in 2000 and finished his dietetic internship at Georgia State University in 2001. He is the President and co-founder of Vegan Outreach. Jack writes a nutrition blog at JackNorrisRD.com.
