VegFest 2008

VegFest 2008 (May 9-10) was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who made it so, especially the 150+ volunteers and our sponsors Blossoming Lotus Café - Vegan World Fusion Cuisine, the Humane Society of the United States, and Papa G's Vegan Organic's!

The Radical Cheerleaders for Animal Rights electrified VegFest with spirited cheers.

The Portland vegan community is one of the strongest and most active in the world. With thousands of vegans, several activist groups and dozens of businesses we are planning an unprecedented outreach campaign to support hundreds of Portlander's interested in making a change in their diet. As a community we will all work together to support anyone interested in trying veganism for a week. Check out a week of daily events, including hundreds long-time vegans paired with aspiring vegans and curious carnivores. Lectures, dine-outs, store tours, and vegan prom! Contact www.tryveganpdx.com. Sponsored by Northwest VEG and Foodfight! Vegan Grocery.

Oregon Farmers' Markets

People’s Co-op holds a farmers market every Wednesday from 2 pm to 7 pm year round. The market offers a direct source to local, seasonal foods. In addition, shoppers can find German-style bread, artisan chocolates, and forest mushrooms. Check it out at 3029 S.E. 21st Ave., (503) 232-9051.

Many of the seasonal markets open in May, though the Portland Farmers Market opens on April 5, 2008. Check out a list of all Oregon Farmers Markets.

Portland vegetarians and vegans — and others wishing to reduce meat and dairy in your diet — welcome to Northwest VEG. We are a vegetarian educational group in Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington. Our vegetarian potlucks and events explore delicious vegetarian and vegan foods — and meeting other vegetarians and vegans. If our potluck happens to be your only vegetarian meal of the month, you'll be welcome, and sure to go home well fed, possibly inspired to try a new recipe. In this site you can find information about joining and/or volunteering with Northwest VEG. Some of the volunteer roles only take an hour or two a month, and we have plenty to choose from, small and large.

Hungry but no time to cook? Check out our list of restaurants that are vegetarian or offer excellent veggie options. Want company? Join us for a dine-out, held the second Saturday of each month at a restaurant that offers tasty vegan options.

Our business partners are carefully selected based on criteria that align with our mission. Please consider supporting these businesses that have contributed generously to Northwest VEG. Please refer to a PDF file with more information.

Curious? We welcome you to contact us. Enjoy your visit to the site, and come back often.
