February 25, 2011

Blue Ocean Events is excited to welcome the Vegan Village, for the third year in a row, to the Better Living Show being held March 25-27 at the Portland Expo Center. This year, Vegan Village is sponsored by Mary's Gone Crackers, one of the top gluten-free, vegan cracker and baked good companies in North America.

According to Vegan Village co-coordinator, Donna Benjamin, "It's Northwest meets green meets vegan meets fun meets sustainable, all in one impactful section on the show floor." Companies bringing their vegan presence to the Village include Bob's Red Mill Natural Foods, Book Publishing Co., Adventist Medical Center, Cafe Yumm!, Chef Al and Donna B!, Dave's Killer Bread, Doctor Kracker, Eat In the Raw, Frey Vineyards, HealthForce Nutritionals, Mary's Gone Crackers, Northwest VEG, Fungi Perfecti, LLC, People's Food Co-op, Numi Tea, Oregon Spay and Neuter, Out to Pasture Animal Sanctuary, Wear Your Veggies, and Turtle Island Foods. More companies are signing up all the time.

New to the 2011 Better Living Show is the world's number two eco-athlete, Atlanta Falcon fullback, Ovie Mughelli. His mission is to teach underprivileged kids how to go green and become more responsible stewards of the planet. At the show, Ovie will give kids a run through his recycling gridiron. Kids (and kids at heart) can collect his autograph from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Other show highlights include:

  • Robert Cheeke of Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness will speak on the Main Stage at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by a book signing in the Book Publishing Co. booth.
  • A new electric vehicle pavilion featuring electric charging stations, the latest in electric vehicles and other eco-friendly transportation options.
  • The Blue Home: an on-site home featuring the greenest ways to build and/or remodel your home.
  • A kid's activity area where children can interact with nature and learn how to care for the environment.
"Stephanie and Michael of Blue Ocean Events have given us the green light again so that we can bring together the finest lineup of companies and organizations that feature plant-based products and services," says Benjamin. "This vegan presence at a Sustainable Lifestyle show gives us the opportunity to bring the multi-faceted message home to a new audience that embracing an all plant-based lifestyle can make a huge impact on our health, the environment and for the stewardship of the animals."

The Better Living Show is Portland's premier sustainable lifestyle festival and the largest event of its kind in the Pacific Northwest. Hours are: Friday, March 25 from noon to 9 p.m.; Saturday, March 26 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, March 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is being held at the Portland Expo Center located at 2060 N Marine Drive in Portland.
