Dr. Neal Barnard is probably most well-known for founding the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a nonprofit group advocating for preventative medicine and high ethical standards in medical research. However, he may soon be better known as the doctor who resurrected Americans' health and vitality.
On September 5, just a few days before Dr. Barnard's keynote address at the Professional Health Conference and VegFest, his free online 21-day Vegan Kickstart program begins. By simply submitting your email address, Dr. Barnard's team will supply you with recipes and meal suggestions for each day in addition to providing healthy living tips from celebrities like Kris Carr (Crazy, Sexy Life), weekly motivational webcasts from Dr. Barnard, an interactive map to help you find vegan restaurants, online discussion with other participants, and daily health messages.
FoodforLifeTV.org will air cooking demonstrations and short lectures by PCRM nutrition experts on Thursday evenings. NutritionMD.org will offer 1,000 vegan recipes and a way to design your own meal plan.
The goals of the Kickstart program are not only weight loss, but a guide to lifelong healthy living. If you're already a healthy vegan, this might be a fun way to join in a large online community and be reminded of the fundamentals. If you're not feeling so healthy, if you're trying to gain fitness, or if you're still tempted by dairy, eggs, and dessert, you'll have all kinds of support and motivation to help you avoid temptation for 21 days.
Dr. Barnard has also published many books on weight loss, preventing diabetes, breaking food addictions, and even using diet to curb chronic pain. Of course, in all of these endeavors, Dr. Barnard lives and promotes a vegan lifestyle.
