Jill Schatz, NW VEG Membership Coordinator
Volunteerism is skyrocketing in this depressing economic era, but financial giving for non-profits is understandably taking a nosedive. And with most of us being more cautious with our consumerism, most businesses are also hurting. Yet Northwest VEG still has a lot to celebrate due to the generous support from our growing number of business partners--businesses that have made NW VEG a priority. I feel the same priority toward them and hope you will too. Let's make a special effort to give them our business when we can and sustain our veg community!
Some recent renewals of long-term partners include FoodFight! Vegan Grocery, always a fun place to shop, with a wide selection of vegan cheeses and festive food for holiday meals and parties--plus a small selection of healthy fresh fruit and veggies. While there, you can also pick up a delectable Celebration Roast or the new Classic Meatloaf from Field Roast Grain Meat Company, a long-time friend and one of our newer business partners. We all tend to fantasize about food at holiday time, so restaurant gift certificates are always welcome. Plus stop by for a meal at Vita Cafe's upscale new digs or for fine dining at Blossoming Lotus Irvington and their more casual venue located downtown in Yoga in the Pearl.
Long-time member New Moon Massage offers a relaxing and restorative break we all need from our hectic lives. Go get a massage for yourself, and perhaps pick up some gift certificates for family and friends. After that you'll be ready to get back to shopping at the now-venerable vegan and internationally acclaimed Herbivore Clothing, offering a great selection of compassionate-themed clothing, books, and gifts.
If a home of your own for the holidays happens to be in your plans, an especially intriguing new business partner is Realtor Elaine Armstrong. Elaine, who is one of our most reliable and generous volunteers, will donate 20 percent of her sale proceeds to NW VEG if you buy or sell a home through her.
That generous note provides a great segue to Northwest VEG. In these hard times, we definitely could use your membership support and year-end donations, too! Please consider joining, renewing, or giving gift memberships. We are including a great package of full-product and dollars-off coupons (some from restaurants) worth more than the price of single memberships, plus at the Family membership level or higher we include a subscription to VegNews magazine!

Enjoy the season and our friendly, compassionate community. I hope to see many of you at our Compassionate Vegan Thanksgiving and December potlucks!
