Race for the Animals 2012
5K/10K fundraising trail run/walk in Forest Park on June 23, 2012
Where?
The race will take place in Forest Park. It will begin and end in Lower MacLeay Park, NW 29th Ave. & Upshur St., Portland, OR 97210.
The course will mainly be on the popular and scenic Wildwood Trail.
When?
Saturday, June 23, 2012
8:30 AM 10K, 9:00 AM 5K
Who can participate?
This event is open to everyone of all ages and abilities. Runners, hikers, and walkers of all paces are encouraged to participate! Please leave your furry friends at home.
Why?
The mission of this event is to generate awareness to a plant-based lifestyle and to raise money for Northwest VEG's education and outreach campaigns.

Registration Options for 5K and 10K:
- $25 per participant before June 22
($5 off for NW VEG Members)
- $30 per participant day-of-race
($5 off for NW VEG Members)
- $10 additional for organic T-shirt

Event Details:
- 10K start time: 8:30 AM
- 5K start time: 9:00 AM
- Bib Pick-Up (Saturday, June 23): 7:30-8:45 AM
- Chip timing: Innovative Timing Systems, instant results posted online and at the race site by Uberthons.
- Aid Stations: There will be one aid station at the start/finish in lower MacLeay Park. And one aid station with water along the 10K course on Aspen Avenue. The 5K will not have an aid station along the course.
- Post Run Picnic: Fruit, energy bars, bread and nut butters for race participants.
- Awards: While awards will be given to the first female and male finishers in each age group, this event is really all about fun, saving animals and the environment!
- Age Groups: 18 and under, 19-35, 36-50, 51 and over (male and female groups).
Transportation:
- Biking: Bike parking is located near the trail head next to the restrooms.
- TriMet: Plan a route using the TriMet website: trimet.org (Use NW 29th Ave & NW Upshur St. as your destination address.)
- Parking: There is neighborhood parking available within a few blocks of the park.
Day-of-Event Instructions and Rules:
- A simple course map and directions will be given out at check-in. In addition, the course will be marked with ribbons along the route.
- Pets, bikes, and baby joggers are not allowed.
- Single file running or walking is advised, as the course is narrow in parts. Please stay to your right and pass on the left.
- Wearing headphones is not advised.
