NW VEG Westside Potluck + Plant-Based Sports Nutrition with Matt Ruscigno, RD

  • West Hills Unitarian Universalist Fellowship 8470 Southwest Oleson Road Portland, OR, 97223 United States (map)

Northwest VEG is very lucky to have sport and nutrition dietitian and ultra athlete Matt Ruscigno MPH, RD, in town the weekend of our February vegan potluck and program, so Matt has kindly agreed to give us an in-person presentation on sports nutrition and health.

Matt is the co-author of  Plant-Based Sports Nutrition – Expert Fueling Strategies for Training, Recovery, and Performance and also of No Meat Athlete. Matt also is an endurance athlete himself, completing more than 30 competitive bike rides of 200 miles or more, including 3-time solo finisher of the Furnace Creek 508 (508 miles through Death Valley) and 3 24-hour mountain bike races. Matt is also the co-producer of the Strongest Hearts series of videos available on YouTube. Each high-quality video of the Strongest Hearts series showcases a day in the life of vegan athletes cooking, eating, training or racing and the videos show how veganism works for them. Athletes have the most demanding nutritional needs on earth and if they can be healthy on a vegan diet, then anyone can!

Come to the potluck at 5 pm, Matt's presentation at 6:15, or both. If you come for the potluck, please bring a plant-based (no meat, eggs, dairy, or other animal products, including honey) main dish, salad, or dessert; a card listing its ingredients; and plates and utensils for your use. If you come alone, figure the amount to serve 4-6; increase the amount 4 servings for each additional person in your party/family.
